iVISTA - webcam essentials

Thank you for purchasing iVISTA, the leading software solution for personal video webcasting. Inetcam’s iVISTA software allows anyone with a Windows-based personal computer and PC camera the ability to stream live video over the Internet.

The real-time video and audio (audio not available with all iVISTA packages) webcasts can be viewed and heard on any Java™-enabled browser — without the need to download any plug-ins or additional software.

iVISTA provides you with the following abilities and features:

  • Single-camera video webcasting
  • Audio webcasting (not available in all packages)
  • Scheduler to automate webcasting video or audio
  • Recorder to save video and audio clips
  • Video E-mail to make sharing your video webcasts easier
  • Personalized, easy to remember WebPage Address to make finding your website easy (a 1-year subscription is included)
  • Java-based video and audio player that automatically downloads to your viewers’ browsers and displays in the following the following languages: English, Arabic, Chinese (both Simplified and Traditional), Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Hebrew, Korean, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish and Swedish
Before you start

Have the following items and information available when you begin setting up your system:

  • iVISTA CD-ROM or downloaded iVISTA installation file
  • Camera, camera software and camera manual
Installing your camera

You must install your camera(s) before installing the iVISTA software.

1    Install your camera and its software using the instructions that came with it. Most USB cameras require simple plug-and-play installation. However, they vary as to whether you need to install the software or plug in the camera first, so check the camera instructions before continuing.

2    Be sure the camera is working properly before you install the iVISTA software.

Installing your iVISTA software

1    Insert the iVISTA CD-ROM into your computer’s CD-ROM drive. The iVISTA installation program should automatically launch; if not, double-click the My Computer icon on your desktop, then double-click the CD-ROM drive icon, then setup (it may appear as setup.exe on some computers) to launch the iVISTA installer.

Note: If you downloaded iVISTA from the Internet, click the My Computer icon on your desktop, then navigate your way to the directory where you downloaded the iVISTA installation file. Double-click on that file to launch the iVISTA installation program.

2    Select your language (downloaded versions may not display this window).

3    After reading the License and Service Agreement, click Accept if you agree with it. Click Next.

Note: If you are lacking an audio and/or video capture device on your computer, the installation program will warn you that certain functions will be unavailable and ask if you want to continue installing. If you add a video or audio device later, you can reconfigure iVISTA to use them — see the Configuration Wizard section of the Control Panel chapter of the User's Guide on the CD-ROM or online.

Select iVISTA Software Installation Settings menu

4    The Select iVISTA Software Installation Settings menu will be displayed (right). If you want iVISTA to launch every time you start your computer, click the checkbox. You can also change the installation directory for iVISTA from here. (Inetcam recommends keeping the default installation directory.)

iVISTA Online Warning window

5    Installation will continue until iVISTA automatically launches, displaying a window reminding you that you must be online for others to access your video and audio webcasts. Click OK. (If you don't want to see this warning in the future, you can check the box marked Do not show this message again.

6    You will see a window labeled Register iVISTA (retail version) or Register/Evaluate iVISTA (download version).

Register iVISTA If you purchased iVISTA at a retail outlet, you will have a card with your Registration Code included in your box; you must enter that code here and click Register to complete the installation process.

Register/Evaluate iVISTAIf you purchased iVISTA from our Web site, you will have been e-mailed your Registration Code. Enter your code here and click Register to activate your copy of iVISTA. If this is an evaluation version of iVISTA, leave the existing text in the window. (You can always register the download versions of iVISTA at a later time; see “The Modules tab” in the Control Panel chapter of the User’s Guide.

Evaluation versions allow you to try iVISTA at no cost for three days. At the end of that period, the software will no longer work until it is purchased.) Click Continue.

7    You will see a window labeled Initial Registration. It will have an animated asterisk bouncing back and forth from the iVISTA logo to the monitor icon while iVISTA contacts the Inetcam servers to register your copy of iVISTA.

Note: You must be connected to the Internet to register.

Enter iVISTA Host Name

8    Once registration is complete, you will be prompted to select a personal host name for your iVISTA WebPage Address. You may choose any name that hasn't already been selected by someone else. Click Set Host Name.

9    You will see a window labeled Setting Host Name. When iVISTA has finished registering your host name, you will see a window labeled iVISTA Update IP with your new iVISTA Host Name and your computer's I.P. address. Click OK. (If the Host Name you selected was already taken, you will be prompted to choose again.)

iVISTA Control Panel

10    Once you have successfully chosen a personal WebPage Address, installation will be complete and iVISTA will finish launching. The iVISTA Control Panel should open on your desktop (right).

Note: If you have more than one video capture device (such as a webcam and a video capture card), you will need to go back and reconfigure iVISTA to recognize them. See the Configuration Wizard section in the Control Panel chapter of the User’s Guide on the CD-ROM for instructions on adding multiple cameras to iVISTA. While you can install multiple cameras with any version of iVISTA, only those packages with multi-camera support can webcast more than one video source at a time.

Our website contains more details on the complete line of iVISTA products.

9    If after installation, iVISTA does not properly display your video, you may need to configure your camera's software to make sure the video format is set to Composite. For details on this procedure, see the Configuration Wizard section in the Control Panel chapter of the User's Guide on the CD-ROM or our website.
