Before you start

Have the following items and information available when you begin setting up your system:

  • iVISTA CD-ROM or downloaded iVISTA installation file
  • Camera, camera software and camera manual
Installing your camera(s)

You should install any cameras or video capture cards before you install the iVISTA software.

Note: If you're planning to use a network (IP) camera with iVISTA, make sure it is set up and that your PC can access it over the network.

  1. Install the camera and its software using the instructions that came with it.
  2. If you want to use a video capture card with iVISTA, install it and its software using the instructions that came with it.
  3. Verify that the camera and/or video capture card is working properly before installing the iVISTA software. (See the instructions provided with the camera and/or capture card.)

Note: Make sure that you close or exit the camera or capture card software before installing iVISTA.
Installing your iVISTA software
  1. Insert the iVISTA CD-ROM into your computer. The software should start automatically. If it does not automatically start, double-click the My Computer icon on your desktop, then double-click the CD-ROM drive icon, then setup (it may appear as setup.exe on some computers) to launch the iVISTA installer.

Note: If you downloaded iVISTA from the Internet, click the My Computer icon on your desktop, then navigate your way to the directory where you downloaded the iVISTA installation file. Double-click the icon for that file to launch the iVISTA installation program.
  2. Select your languageSelect your language.

Note: Downloaded versions of iVISTA may not include this screen.

  3. Install iVISTA or Read ManualsClick on the Install iVISTA button. (If you wish to read the HTML versions of this User's Guide or the QuickSetup Guide, then click on Read Manuals.)

Note: Downloaded versions of iVISTA may not include this screen.

  4. License agreementAfter reading the License and Service Agreement, click Accept if you agree with it. (If you are re-installing iVISTA or upgrading from an earlier version of iVISTA 4.1, the first dialogue window displayed will offer you a choice of Upgrade or Re-install. Re-install will overwrite any changes to iVISTA you may have previously made - any motion detection profiles, schedules, or icon naming changes in the tree view will be lost. Upgrade will preserve your existing settings. Click Next.

Note: If you are lacking an audio and/or video capture device on your computer, the installation program will warn you that certain functions will be unavailable and ask if you want to continue installing. If you add a video or audio device later, you can reconfigure iVISTA to use them - see the Configuration Wizard section of the Control Panel chapter of the User's Guide.

  5. Select iVISTA settingsThe Select iVISTA Software Installation Settings menu will be displayed. If you want iVISTA to launch every time you start your computer, click the check box. You can also change the installation directory for iVISTA from here. (Inetcam recommends keeping the default installation directory.) Click Next.

  6. Install / Source selection

  7. If you have more than one capture device (camera or video capture card) installed on your computer, the Configuration Wizard will ask you to select which video capture device(s) you want to set up to work with iVISTA (right). Depending on your version of Windows and how current your DirectX Windows media drivers are, you may see two entries for each video capture device - one for the Direct Show driver and one for the Video for Windows driver. Direct Show and Video for Windows are two different capture engines that Windows can use for handling digital video. Inetcam recommends using the Direct Show driver if available for your device, as it will generally result in significant performance advantages over Video for Windows. If you do not see the name of your camera in the list, look for a Microsoft WDM (Windows Driver Model) image capture driver.

After selecting a driver, click Next.

Note: If you only have one video capture device installed, this screen will not be displayed and iVISTA will automatically configure the single device.

  8. Install / choose sourceYou will be asked to select your video source; you should choose iVISTA Single Video Source for any web cams, or for video capture cards that you are using separately from Inetcam video switchers.

If you are using an Inetcam VTS switcher, see the instructions included with it on which entry to select.

Note: If you are using a single USB web cam, this screen will not be displayed and iVISTA will automatically configure it for you.

  9. Configuring your video - is it correct? You will see a window with a live view of your video feed (right). Click Yes if the video is being displayed properly and go on to Step 10.
  10. If you clicked No because the video was not being displayed properly, you will be shown a window labeled "Configuring ..." The specific menu options will vary depending on whether you selected a Direct Show or Video for Windows driver.
Direct Show configuration menuIf you selected a Direct Show driver for this device, you will see the dialogue to the right. Click on Edit Settings to open the camera or capture card's settings menu. Look for an option to choose Composite video as the input. Select this option if it is available - not all software has this option.
Video for Windows configuration menuIf you selected a Video for Windows driver for this device, you will see the dialogue to the right. Click on Video Source Setup to open the camera or capture card's settings menu. Look for an option to choose Composite video as the input. Select this option if it is available - not all software has this option.

If the video still doesn't display correctly, see the instructions provided by the manufacturer to verify that the video device and its software are working correctly.
  11. When your camera is properly set up, you will see a window telling you that the configuration was successful. Click Continue if you have more than one camera or video capture device you want to use with iVISTA; you will then be returned to Step 6. Otherwise, click Finish. The Configuration Wizard will close down and iVISTA will continue installing.

Note: You can configure as many video sources as Windows will recognize, but the number of them you can simultaneously webcast is determined by your iVISTA license.
  12. Network camera dialogueA window will display asking if you want to configure a network camera for iVISTA (right). Clicking No will take you on to the rest of the installation process (skip to Step 13); clicking Yes will open the Network Camera Configuration menu.

  13. Network camera configurationThe Network Camera Configuration menu (right) allows you to use iVISTA to webcast the video signal from a network camera. To add a network camera to your iVISTA Control Panel, first click Add, then type in the Host Name or IP Address. You’ll need to select the model name of your network camera on the Camera Type pull-down menu. The Name entry is what this network camera will be titled in the Control Panel. Click Apply to add the camera to iVISTA; click Close to continue with installation.

Note: You can configure as many video sources as Windows will recognize, but the number of them you can simultaneously webcast is determined by your iVISTA license.

  14. Online warningInstallation will continue until iVISTA automatically launches, displaying a window reminding you that you must be online for others to access your video and audio webcasts. Click OK. (If you don't want to see this warning in the future, you can check the box marked Do not show this message again.)

  15. Register iVISTAYou will see a window labeled Register/Evaluate iVISTA, asking for your Registration Code. Enter your code here and click Register to activate your copy of iVISTA. (If this is an evaluation version of iVISTA and you don't want to register now, leave the existing text in the window. Evaluation versions allow you to try iVISTA at no cost. At the end of the free trial period, the software will no longer work until it is purchased.) Click Continue.
  16. You will see a window labeled Initial Registration. It will have an animated asterisk bouncing back and forth from the iVISTA logo to the monitor icon while iVISTA contacts the Inetcam servers to register your copy of iVISTA.

Note: You must be connected to the Internet to register.
  17. Enter iVISTA host nameOnce registration is complete, you will be prompted to select a personal host name for your iVISTA WebPage Address. You may choose any name that hasn't already been selected by someone else. Enter the name of your choice and click Set Host Name.

  18. You will see a window labeled Setting Host Name. When iVISTA has finished registering your host name, you will see a window labeled iVISTA Update IP with your new Host Name and your computer's IP address. Click OK. (If the Host Name you selected was already taken, you will be prompted to choose again.)
  19. iVISTA Enterprise Control PanelOnce you have successfully chosen a personal WebPage Address, installation will be complete and iVISTA will finish launching. The iVISTA Control Panel should open on your desktop.
