If the computer you use to run iVISTA has to pass through a router to access the Internet, visitors may have problems finding your VideoWebPage. This is because in some cases, the router assigns an IP address to your PC that is different than the actual IP of your Internet connection. If this is the case, you will have to configure the router in order for visitors to be able to see your iVISTA VideoWebPage. This section will help you determine if you may have a router problem, and offers tips on configuring some of the more popular routers.

If viewers are unable to find your VideoWebPage (getting a "Page Not Found" message in their browser) when they type in your Personal WebPage Address, first make sure iVISTA and your camera(s) are operating correctly. To do this, click on the home icon on the bottom of the control panel. This will launch your default web browser and open your VideoWebPage off your hard drive. If your web page does not open correctly, you should make sure that Inetcam Web Server is running on your computer. Click on the wrench icon in the lower right-hand corner of the iVISTA Control Panel, then click on Configure iVISTA. When the Settings menu opens, click on the Web Server tab. If the left-hand button reads Start web server now, then IWS is not running. Click the button, then click OK to close the Settings menu. Click on the home icon to re-open your VideoWebPage, which should now appear properly. If the button on the Web Server menu reads Stop web server now , then IWS is already running and you may have a router problem.

Another indication that you may have a router issue is if the IP address of the computer running iVISTA appears as 192.168.xxx.xxx. If you know you have a router, you'll want to port forward or port map port 80 to the internal 192.168.xxx.xxx address of the machine running iVISTA. Different routers have different configuration methods. We have included some of the more popular router configurations below, but you may want to refer back to the manual that came with your router or the web site of the manufacturer of your router for more information on port forwarding or port mapping for that particular brand name and model.

Before attempting to configure your router, you'll want to find out the actual IP address of your computer:

  • If you are running Windows 95/98/ME: Go to the Windows Start button, then click Run and type winipcfg in the box that appears. Click OK. Write down the IP address that you see displayed. (If you see 0.0.0.0 listed as your IP address, click the drop-down list and choose another network adapter. Write down that number instead of 0.0.0.0.)
  • If you are running Windows NT/2000: Go to the Windows Start button, then click Run and type cmd in the box that appears. Click OK. This will bring up a DOS prompt. Type ipconfig and hit the Enter key. Write down the IP that you see in the window under IP.

You will need this information to configure your router.

Note: The tips on configuring routers are provided as a service by Inetcam for its customers and is provided on an "as-is" basis. Inetcam cannot guarantee the accuracy of any of these tips - customers should see the documentation provided with their routers if they have any questions.

IVISTA Web Server handles requests on port 80. If you are running a firewall, you may have to configure that firewall to open port 80 for both incoming and outgoing requests. Please see your firewall manufacturer's documentation for more information.
